I don’t want to say too much about the ending because I don’t want to hide behind the spoiler function in this review, but in essence I agree with other reviewers’ cries of “deus ex machina! I make sure not to blame the content on the narrator. And yet she knew that her anger was horribly misdirected. Ahsolution the final disputes are settled, the ship is redirected towards Hela.

The leaders debate whether or not to go to the moon Hela which Absolutiom suggests they do or Yellowstone, to help evacuate the planet. He’s gotta be crazy right? Other than the ending though, I found Absolution Gap to be just as well executed as the rest of the Revelation Space novels.

I also have the short-story and novella collections set in the same universe waiting on my kindle and anticipate wolfing them down pretty soon. Granted, that one moment is one HELL of a moment, one that I as a writer who knows how much the characters reynold worlds you create mean to you might not have had the courage or willpower to write, but overall the Inhibitors themselves are surprisingly absent from the book, and when they do appear they just do not seem as terrible and threatening as they should be.


I would have stopped reading this book pages in, but I pushed I was extremely disappointed with this 3rd concluding book of the series. View all 5 comments. It’s suggested that the Inhibitors suppress them, yet the humans can’t deal with the Greenfly who are apparently relatively low-tech in origin even after pushing back the Inhibitors. There will be violence – renolds yes there will. There are still humans around in some of the habitats, but humanity as a space faring and autonomous culture is over.

I read Galactic North which I loved for the most partbut the Galactic North short story didn’t seem to add much to the Absolution Gap ending.

Alastair Reynolds has presented the new century with a remarkable prose creation. This is the fourth novel I’ve ready by Alastair Reynolds, and I have to admit that while it took me a bit of time to get into the writing, the effort is never wasted.

As the crew collect the last refugees attempting to escape the system, a minor mutiny breaks out amongst the upper echelons, in which Scorpio’s leadership is overturned and the other leaders take power as a group. After the Revelation Space series, he published, Pushing Ice which was much better at offering the reader a brief summary of events instead of a proper ending.

Would a creator have permitted such a thing when all would it have taken was a nudge alasatir set the world right? Apollo arrive to save the day.

This is due to Scorpio electing to rescue the last refugees off a shuttle that had been contaminated by the Inhibitors. I’m sorry to see the end of the trilogy, but it will be with me, in my mind, for some time to come.
